If there’s been one positive change from the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s that more businesses than ever before are giving employees the opportunity to work remotely. Prior to the pandemic, just 4 percent of high-paying jobs were remote. Today, that number is more than 15 percent and continues to rise each year.
One big benefit of working remotely is the chance to combine work with travel. Looking for Southern Utah vacation rentals for your next work-cation? Look no further.
Water Canyon Resort caters to remote workers, digital nomads, or anyone who needs to squeeze in a little work on their next relaxing vacation. Each of our cabins features dedicated workspaces, complete with a desk that you can use to work from your laptop and set up any other gear that you might need. An in-unit kitchenette, complete with a mini-fridge, microwave, and Keurig, allows you to make quick breakfasts or lunches without having to venture out in the middle of your work day.
Unlike cabins in St George Utah, which see crowds of tourists, especially during the summer months our property is located in quiet, peaceful Hildale. Surrounded by stunning landscapes, you can spend your days getting work done and taking in the scenery, while also mixing in fun and exciting day trips to some of Southern Utah’s most popular destinations.
But if you’re new to working remotely or visiting Southern Utah for the first time, staying motivated and on track while working away from home can sometimes be a challenge. If you’re planning your first working vacation at Southern Utah vacation rentals, keep reading for a few tips to help you make the most of your trip.
Carry the Right Equipment
To do your best work remotely, it’s important to have the right equipment. You’ve no doubt compiled plenty of supplies in your home since you began working remotely. While you may not need everything to work for a weekend or even a week while on vacation, there are some items you’ll want to remember to grab.
A laptop is obviously a no-brainer, don’t forget:
- Power cord: If you usually work from a desk, it’s easy to forget to grab your power cord.
- Backup battery or portable charger (or both!): You’ll love working from the dedicated workstation in our Southern Utah vacation rentals. But if you want to be able to work from the picnic area in a park or another remote location, having a backup battery or portable charger can help you do that.
- Wireless mouse and/or keyboard: If you usually work from a desktop computer, working from a laptop for long hours each day might not be comfortable. Bringing along a wireless mouse and/or a keyboard can help you stay just as productive as you are at home.
Stick to a Schedule to Get Work Done
It’s easy to get caught up in planning your visit to Southern Utah, and not think about the work you’ll get done while you’re here. Setting deadlines for yourself, and planning ahead what hours you’ll work each day and when you’ll take a break can help you stay on track.
The last thing you want to do is get home from your fun vacation and find yourself way behind in work. Also, not doing enough work early in your trip could cause you to have to stay in and miss out on fun activities later in your trip as you struggle to catch up.
Pick a Destination With Stable Wi-Fi
You won’t get very far in your work without a good Wi-Fi connection. Don’t assume that all Southern Utah vacation rentals include stable Wi-Fi. Water Canyon Resort offers free, high-speed Fiber Optic internet. This means that you can power your laptop, tablet, or other devices while working from your cabin.
If you plan to work elsewhere during your stay, like a restaurant or coffee shop, check ahead of time to see whether they have public Wi-Fi. Otherwise, you may want to consider bringing along a wireless hotspot. Keep in mind that your hotspot may not have service in remote areas, such as within national and state parks in the region. It may be better to get your work done in your Water Canyon cabin where you know that you’ll have a good connection, and then go explore those places when your work day is over.
Minimize Distractions
When you wander out of your cabin for the day to explore, there will be no shortage of distractions vying for your attention. From the stunning views to our brand new Water Canyon Winery, there’s plenty to see and do — and to cause you to forget about the work that you need to do. To make the most of the time you plan to spend working, turn off unnecessary notifications and distractions.
Turn off the TV. Avoid the temptation to scroll social media. If you’re traveling with friends or family, ask that they give you some space to get your work done.
